How much power will it actually make?
A real number for your postcode, in kilowatt hours — not a savings figure invented from a tariff nobody has asked you about.

What this assumes
- Panels that are unshaded and reasonably oriented. A roof under a tree, facing south, or at an awkward pitch makes less — sometimes a lot less, and only somebody who has stood on it can say by how much.
- The zone rating your postcode falls in, which is the figure the federal certificate scheme itself deems a system will generate. We are not modelling your roof; we are quoting the regulator.
- Nothing about what you use, what you export, or what you pay for electricity — which is why there is no dollar figure anywhere on this page. Those numbers are real, but they belong to a quote, not to a web page.

Why there is no dollar figure here
Savings depend on your bill, not your roof
What a system is worth to you turns on what you pay per kilowatt hour, how much power you use while the sun is up, and what your retailer pays for what you export. Change any one of those and the answer moves by thousands.
Those numbers change, and this page would not
Tariffs move, feed-in rates have fallen for years, and a calculator written today is quietly wrong by next winter. A generation figure from the regulator's own table does not rot the same way.
A quote can do it properly
An installer who has looked at your roof, your switchboard and a recent bill can model it for your house — with the assumptions written down. Ask them to show the payback as its own line, and ask what bill they assumed.
Where the number comes from
Australia is divided into four solar zones by postcode, and each zone carries a rating: the electricity a kilowatt of panels is expected to generate there in a year. It is not our estimate — it is the figure the federal certificate scheme uses to work out how many certificates a system earns, published by the Clean Energy Regulator in the Renewable Energy (Electricity) (Zone Ratings and Zones for Solar (Photovoltaic) Systems) Instrument 2019. It has been in effect since 2020-01-01, and we read it on 2026-09-19.
The sum is one multiplication: the size of the system, times your zone's rating. What it cannot know is your roof — shade from a neighbour's gum tree, a south-facing pitch, a chimney in the wrong place. Those only come off the number, never on to it, so treat it as the good case rather than the likely one.

We do not print the discount as a figure because it depends on your postcode, the size of the system and the year — it steps down every January — and a number that is wrong by February is worse than no number.
