What we check before anyone gets your number.

Four things, all of them boring, all of them the difference between a good week and a bad year.

  • Accreditation, and that it has not lapsed

Installing a grid-connected solar system in Australia requires an accredited installer, and the accreditation expires. We hold the certificate, we hold its expiry date, and the platform stops sending work to a business whose accreditation has run out — automatically, on the day, rather than when somebody notices.

  • Insurance

Public liability cover, on file and in date. People are going on your roof and into your switchboard.

  • That they actually cover your address

Every installer draws the area they serve, and we match your postcode against it. It is why you do not get a call from someone three hours away who will quote high and hope you say no.

  • That they are not taking more than they can handle

There is a limit on how many installers work any one area through us, and a limit on how much work each takes at a time. An installer with a full diary is the reason a quote takes three weeks.

And what we do not check

A service that implies more than it does is worse than one that checks nothing, because you would stop looking. So, plainly:

  • We do not inspect their work. We are not on the roof, and we do not sign off installations.
  • We do not rank installers or run a best-in-town list. Nobody pays for a position here, because there are no positions.
  • We do not set or see your price. What they quote you is between you and them.

Check it yourself, too

You do not have to take our word for any of it. An installer's accreditation is public: ask for the accreditation number on the quote and look it up at Solar Accreditation Australia, who can also find them by name. Ask to see the certificate of currency for their public liability cover too. Both are normal questions, and a good business answers them without blinking.

One more, which costs nothing and tells you a great deal: ask who will physically be on the roof, and whether they are employed by the company quoting you or subcontracted. There is nothing wrong with either answer. There is something wrong with not getting one.
